Seahorse Chocolate started in specialty coffee. Before making chocolate, the team spent years roasting, sourcing, and tasting at a high level, learning how small changes in process shape flavor. That same mindset now guides everything Seahorse does, including roasting cocoa beans on a San Franciscan coffee roaster.
The result is dark, rich chocolate with tasting notes that differ entirely depending on where the cacao is grown, and genuinely worth tasting. Small-batch, bean-to-bar, made in Bend, Oregon from single-origin cacao sourced from producers they trust. Most bars have just two ingredients: cocoa beans and organic cane sugar.
The producers behind each bar matter as much as the cacao itself. One source is Zorzal, a 1,019-acre bird sanctuary in the Dominican Republic where cacao farming and conservation were built together from the start.
Sustainable and delicious chocolate, to Seahorse, isn't about checking boxes. It's about thoughtful decisions, real partnerships, and growing over time.
Founded by R.C. and Amanda Gartrell and now owned by Emily Papo, Seahorse continues to honor that original vision while carrying it forward.
