The beans are Certified Organic and Direct Trade. The region, Reserva Zorzal, was the first private reserve in the Dominican Republic, as part of the National Protected Area System. Reserva Zorzal has become a model for private landowners to participate in landscape-level conservation and 70% of the acres are devoted for wintering grounds for the Bicknell's Thrush, an endangered species of bird.
