Lachuá cacao is grown in the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala located approximately five hours by car north of Guatemala City. Here you will find Q’eqchi’ Maya families who cultivate cacao varietals including trinitario, amelonado, forastero, nacional, as well as United Fruit clones from Amelonado genotypes. Farmers here earn over 90% more than the Cote d’lvorie farmgate price making cacao from this region a sustainable crop. The Alta Verapaz region is rich in diversity including crops such as plantain, mango, banana, cardamom and coffee production.
Lachuá cacao is an ultra-premium cacao that has won over 29 awards as of 2019. Peak harvest season runs March - June
